Slacker I know…
*I would like to point out that I have slacked on my ‘I’m a slacker’ blog post since August, my bad, never hit publish.*
So I admit, I have been slacking here, but you know what life is like right? Full time jobs and kids and summer and race season, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do it all. Lately it has been a lot of family time and working on a dream project of mine. It is rare to have off weekends during race season so since both of our touring race series were off the last two weeks, we have been getting in some fun stuff with our little racers while school is out and the weather is gorgeous. We’ve done ice cream, flea markets, visited amusement parks, and taken a trip to a local lake with a beach so the little racers could play in the sand. It has been really nice having some time totally together.
This doesn’t mean racing has been left out. We’ve also traveled out of state for parts, changed rears, bought new brakes, scaled the car, and we are having some work done to “AnnaBeth’s” motor and a rebuild for “Cheryl’s” carburetor. Have I mentioned every vehicle we own, including the daily drivers, are named? My Racer’s truck is his pride and joy and he calls her “Beauty”. Funnily enough, our little racer has named his power wheels “Beauty” as well, just like Daddy. My Jeep is “Gloria” and she’s sporting some new sneakers and front shocks this month for her 10th birthday. My parents gave us their old Tahoe, she is “Evelyn”. There are so many race cars that have come and gone, “Candice”, “H1-H3”, “Julie”… the list goes on. My Racer’s favorite car was “MaryBeth”. Poor MaryBeth took a hard hit into the wall last September and bent her front clip. It was a really hard hit and even bent the steering wheel and seat. Since all the big end of year races were coming up, we needed another car to finish the season. Our oldest car, “Cheryl” just didn’t seem up to the task to compete for the top 5 so we found and brought home “Anna”. Anna had potential but wow was her body in rough shape. It seemed a good idea to take the body off of MaryBeth and so now we’ve updated her to “AnnaBeth”. AnnaBeth is looking sharp and fierce, even in her crinkled fenders we pounded out in the yard with hammers. She was definitely a smart addition to our family. She was a turn-key deal from New York and we couldn’t be happier.
I love that our little racers know the cars by name as well. We have someone who sometimes drives one of our cars for us and the kids will yell out “who” is on the track. It’s adorable and crazy at the same time. These last few weeks have been awesome but busy as we gear up for the busiest month of them all, September. September is an awesome month for racing. We have a HUGE memorial race, the annual Race of Champions, and the U.S. Open.
